Clara smiled, taking in the state-of-the-art facility she could once only dream of. Nearly two decades had passed since she first took the stage nude and outraged critics. Now at 41, she was the director of her own internationally renowned company that pushed boundaries of dance and expression.
When Clara founded the academy fifteen years ago, she had vowed to train dancers focused on technique rather than artifice or convention. She hand-selected students based solely on ability, disregarding rigid body standards of the past. And she required all classes be taught barefoot, instilling connection with one’s self.
Her methods were considered radical in those early years. But Clara’s graduates went on to stun and inspire audiences with their technical brilliance, joyous freedom of movement, and celebration of the unadorned human form.
Eventually, Clara’s small school had blossomed into the visionary campus sprawling across the clifftops today. Students from around the world now competed fiercely for admission, dreaming of learning from the legendary Clara Bell.
